Complete Guide to TSA PreCheck & Global Entry in 2025

Trusted traveler programs shorten security and immigration lines for low-risk travelers. Choosing between TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, and CLEAR depends on whether you mostly fly domestic or return to the US from abroad.

TSA PreCheck — faster domestic security

PreCheck gives you expedited screening at participating US airports: keep shoes and light jackets on, laptops and liquids often stay in the bag. It does not help you re-enter the US from another country.

Global Entry — PreCheck plus US arrival

Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck eligibility for US citizens and includes kiosks/mobile processing at US immigration. If you take even one international trip a year, Global Entry is usually the better single enrollment.

Application tips that save time

  • Answer history questions carefully — discrepancies slow approval.
  • Schedule your interview as soon as conditionally approved; slots fill in big cities.
  • Renew before expiry; some programs allow early renewal windows.
  • Add your Known Traveler Number to every frequent-flyer profile and booking.

CLEAR — a different product

CLEAR verifies identity with biometrics at participating airports and can shorten the line to ID check. It complements PreCheck but does not replace immigration benefits. Frequent flyers in ATL, DEN, LAX-type hubs often pair both.
